COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Energy has initiated a project to install 5-kilowatt solar panels at religious institutions throughout Sri Lanka, with financial support of $17 million from India.
This initiative aims to cover a diverse range of religious sites, including temples, churches, mosques, and Hindu kovils, across the island.
In its first phase, the project will provide for the installation solar panels at 5,000 religious sites, starting early next year.
Each solar panel system is expected to generate between 500 to 600 units of electricity per month, contributing an estimated annual total of 37 million units of electricity.
