COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police believe that another individual residing in Sri Lanka may be behind the orchestration of the Ganemulla Sanjeewa assassination.
Detectives suspect that this person may have also directed the woman who disguised herself as a lawyer and entered the court complex.
A total of 13 mobile phones belonging to identified Special Task Force officers, police officers, and prison officers who were present at the court premises when the assassination took place have been taken into custody by the investigation teams.
These phones are currently being examined for further investigation.
An inquiry has also been initiated regarding the court appearance of Ganemulla Sanjeewa on the 19th of last month, due to the chaotic situation that has arisen over the matter.
Meanwhile, security forces surrounded and searched a house in the Rannagala Estate in the Thebuwana police division, following information that Ishara Sewwandi, the main suspect in the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder case who disguised herself as a lawyer, was present there.
The van used by the suspect to flee after the shooting has been handed over to the Government Analyst for further investigation.
It has been discovered that the engine number, chassis number, and license plates of the van are fake.
A police officer, believed to be the owner of the van, has been arrested.
Investigations have revealed that another police officer provided the van to him.
This officer is currently in Dubai under the protection of an organized crime figure.
Additionally, the mother and younger brother of the main female suspect, who are accused of aiding and abetting the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder, have been remanded until March 7th.
They were presented before Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara today, following the expiration of their previous detention order.
The Colombo Crimes Division informed the court that investigations have revealed that these suspects were aware of the incident.
