COLOMBO (News 1st); The ongoing dry weather conditions have led to an increase in electricity production costs, according to Dhammika Wimalasena, the spokesperson for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

As a result, thermal power plants and thermal power stations have been operating at higher capacities.

The Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is now functioning at its maximum capacity of 900 MW.

Additionally, the Kelanitissa Naphtha Power Plant and the Sapugaskanda Power Plant are also currently in operation.

Hydropower plants are contributing 20% of the total electricity generation during the day and 40% at night.

The CEB has also noted that solar power plants are providing increased electricity generation during the daytime.

The CEB has stated that these conditions are expected to persist until April.
